"I felt like an emotionally intelligent teacher."
Our pilot with the University of Bedfordshire gave over 100 PGCE (teacher training) students the chance to engage in LEARN 2050 workshops and content.
The pilot highlighted the value and need to have a space to talk about what it means to be a learner.
The LEARN 2050 approach has been designed to not only build the resilience of teachers (early career and more experienced) but also to allow them to connect with the joy of learning - both their own and those they teach.
Teaching is 'heart work' more than 'hard work'
... and these workshops really highlight that...we must get to know students in order to create a 'safe' space and a growth mindset... for students to learn, we must understand them.
I'm sure for most of us doing our PGCE [postgraduate teacher training], we have got to this point of career choice as we missed something from our own school experiences that we want to fill and pass on to the future generations. The videos and articles set up in the workshops really highlight different approaches to teaching, from a view outside of just 'learning', but shaping young people into fully equipped people, with knowledge and care in their toolbox. -
