Researching with children - getting the ethics right
As part of an ongoing collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University this week Sam is in Liverpool working with a group of academics to develop resources to support children's active participation in research.
On the back of a recent book project, which will form part of the series Emerald Studies in Child Centred Practice and that includes contributions from the UK and Canada - we are now working to create some tools that can extend what we have learnt and make a real difference to practice.
A constant theme in our forthcoming book The Ethics of Unlocking Research with Children - was the importance of relationships in creating a context for research in which the child participant felt they had 'value' and 'voice' and could contribute to the 'vision' of the research itself.
Over two days - with the input of some recent surveys with school children in Liverpool - we will be looking at ways to better connect the researcher and the participant in order to make research not only more accessible but also more meaningful.
