Financing a Learning Movement

I am feeling anxious about money and I am not the only one. A recent news article explored the way in which our attitudes to money can have a significant impact on who we are and our relationships with others.

Of course, my worries have to be put into a wider context and although I recognise that my financial concerns are far from those of so many others - they are still defining. For Learning Allowed, money not only impacts how I feel and therefore how I perform it perhaps, more importantly, shapes the reality of what we can do as an organisation - when and for how long.

That moment before an organisation starts to trade seems so fraught with risk. You are

  • searching for grants to get the ideas off the ground - knowing that just one grant will make all the difference

  • wondering if all the business planning will actually lead to people using what you offer and generate an income

  • preparing (for some) to take that big step away from a secure income to focus more on the project.

So why put yourself through it?

When I read the reports from the Guardian on climate change last week it reminded me.

If there is a chance that we (Learning Allowed) can make a contribution to how we are all able to see ourselves as learners and through this add to our collective confidence to engage with and respond to ‘wicked problems’ like climate change - then finding a way through these current financial worries seem like a small price to pay!

Look out for more on our programmes to ‘launch the movement’ coming in September 2024.
