Children as Change Makers

I have had many conversations with children when they have asked me ‘how can I make a difference’. Our new book Children as Change Makers, looks to reflect on that question and offer some practical steps that adults can take to enable children’s meaningful participation in their communities.

The chapters reignite a call for a paradigm shift in society, arguing that children’s social engagement is key to navigating local and global change.

It invites adults to advance their thinking by reflecting on and revisiting the way they view children as participants (especially children under the age of 12 years old).

Drawing on the multidisciplinary field of Childhood and Youth Studies the book calls for a unity of thought that equips children and young people as ‘participants’ to be a catalyst for a shared vision that recognises the social, environmental, economic and health challenges in communities.

Written with the talented Daniella Bendo, we hope this book makes a direct contribution to conversations in the UK, Canada and beyond. As we wrote the ambition was always to make the ‘change maker’ real.

So we are delighted that this content will be integrated into our LEARN 2030 catalyst programme - forming the basis of the silver award which is being prepared for next year.
