Chapter 5 - How we can allow learning

For too many adults the answer to the question ‘how we can allow learning’ is by control. It is teacher/facilitator/educator/instructor – directed. We suggest that ‘control’ cannot offer the means to develop value, voice and vision and so cannot strengthen positive learning identities and constrains the processes of learning.

In contrast, it is only with consent and meaningful mutual relationships that we ‘allow’ ourselves to recognise our place and purpose as connected learners with agency and so can maximise what might be gained from any learning experience. In this episode we examine the underlying ethos with which the learner is ‘managed’, and the impact on how we assess our value, voice and vision.
