Curriculum Review - a roadmap for accelerated action
by Caroline Whalley as shared with Sam Frankel
The start of November brought with it the full report on curriculum and assessment in English schools. Convened in July 2024, this independent panel chaired by Professor Becky Francis gathered evidence from a range of sources and voices across the sector. The final report has been broadly welcomed as a potential catalyst for positive change. Celebrities such as Ed Sheeran have highlighted the opportunities for subjects like music, however others suggest the report does not go far enough, for example leading scientists have called on the government to be ‘braver’ if they want to achieve ‘lasting meaningful change’.
Here we want to acknowledge the opportunities but to sit that alongside the need for change - offering a series of practical steps that can elevate creative, student centred education from the margins to the mainstream.
Here, Caroline offers an assessment of where some of those possibilities lie as a first step towards a programme for accelerated action.
